(B. 1972)
Born in Shenyang, China, Cai Zhisong was a graduate of Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Art, and he is a sculpture artist whose powerful work has gained him international recognition. Created with great technical skill and inventiveness, Cai Zhisong's impressive sculptures derive their inspiration from the sculptures of the Qin Dynasties (221-206 B.C.) and also present traditional Chinese spiritual ambience. He put emphases on some kind of tender and harmonious inner state without religious worship and that’s exactly his unique style. The series of “Motherland” definitely the Cai’s representative artworks. Through metallic materials such as copper and lead, he precisely presents Chinese aesthetic philosophy, however with distinct meaning, as well as the combination of solidness and tenderness.
