Chen was born in 1948 and graduated from National Arts School (now National Taiwan University of Arts). He has traveled to Paris for creation, and later on came back to Taiwan, teaching at the university where he graduated from. Some of his important exhibitions are: 1979 solo exhibition at American Cultural Center of AIT; 1986 solo exhibition at Gravelines Museum in France; 1997 solo exhibition at Chinese History Museum in Beijing. During his trip in Paris, he combined numerous painting skills, including Western and Eastern ones, to develop new expression and new subject matter for ink and water painting. Today, his artwork is finally able to get rid of those traditional painting’s restrain, presenting something that emerges both aesthetics of Western and Eastern art.
